1. What is the difference between an Ammunition Manager and a QASAS?
Ammunition managers and QASAS share many of the same functions and skills. The fundamental difference is that ammunition managers focus on logistics and managing the ammunition stockpile while the QASAS focus on inspection and the quality and reliability of the stockpile.
Another significant difference is how the career programs manage the careerists. The QASAS Career Program Manager centrally manages the reassignment of all QASAS careerists; deciding when and where QASAS are reassigned. Ammunition Manager careerists are responsible for their own career path and decide when and where they move by applying for and being accepted for CP 33 positions. The CP 33 Career Manager distributes job vacancy announcements and developmental opportunities to careerists, and manages the CP 33 mentor program.
2. Where can I get application procedures for the internship program?
Announcements for intern positions are posted on http://www.usajobs.gov/. Ammunition Management intern positions are classified as GS-0346-07, Logistics Management Specialist (Ammunition); and QASAS Intern positions are classified as GS-1910-07, Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammunition Surveillance). If you are passed over for an intern position and want to be considered for future intern positions, you must resubmit your resume and follow the application procedures each time an announcement is open.
3. How long of a commitment is the internship program?
Although the Ammunition Manager and QASAS intern tracks differ in content, both programs require a two year commitment. Phase 1 is approximately 12 months of classroom training conducted at DAC in McAlester, OK. Phase 2 is approximately 12 months of on-the-job training (OJT) at a permanent duty location designated by the Career Program Manager.
4. How much does the internship program cost me?
You are hired into the intern program at the GS-07 pay rate. There is no cost for you to attend the training.
5. Will DAC pay my travel and/or relocation expenses in connection with the internship program or any potential job offer?
DAC will not fund your move to McAlester to attend the training. Once you complete the 12 months of classroom training, the relocation expenses to your permanent duty location will be funded in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulation.
6. Can I visit DAC prior to accepting an internship? Or Does DAC offer an open house for interested applicants?
DAC does not offer an open house. Additional information about the career programs and the McAlester area is available upon request by contacting Academic Services at phone: DSN 956-8967, Commercial (918) 420-8967.
7. What must I bring with me when I report in for the first day of internship?
You will need the following documents to process through security at the front gate: driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.
8. What educational or other requirements must I have to qualify for one of the internship programs (Ammo Manger or QASAS)?
DAC considers a balance of academic background and on-the-job experience in a number of related fields when choosing interns. Applicants’ backgrounds vary academically (e.g., high school, high school with some college, Associates Degree, Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree) and are coupled with experience in government positions or other related non-government fields. Additionally, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and be able to meet/pass physical/medical requirements, including random drug testing.
9. Upon graduation from the internship program, may I choose a duty station, or does DAC assign duty stations?
Applicants are expected to sign a mobility agreement as a precondition to acceptance and graduation from the intern programs. The agreement states that an intern will be assigned (and must move) to any location within the Department of the Army. Failure to relocate can be used as the basis for non-selection, or removal from Federal service after selection. The Career Program Office determines where interns are assigned after graduation.
10. How much of the day does an intern commit to the program?
Intern work/class hours are from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Interns are required to attend class every day except during a federal holiday. A few breaks are built into the schedule (typically around major holidays) where interns will be authorized annual leave. The intern manager schedules all courses and break periods.
11. Do Ammunition Managers and QASAS handle live ammunition?
Yes.
12. What are the criteria for passing the internship program?

13. What job opportunities are available to me after graduation?
